Bundesautobahn – Federal Motorway   

Autobahn is one of the historical achievement of German road network, they offers an amazing experience & greater comfort. Wish one should enjoy the ultimate drive experience especially with high powered cars, but don’t be blind to over speed limit as many of the stretches have a permanent or temporary speed limits ranging from 80 to 130 km/h. Germany's autobahn network has a total length of about 12,993 kilometers according 2016 statistic, constructed & maintained Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. Autobahns are federally built controlled-access highways designed and maintained with high standard for high speed moving vehicles, with at least two lanes with an additional service lane per direction, separated by median strip containing traffic barrier or grass. They are free of cross road, railways & traffic signal for un-interrupted flow of traffic, with entrance and exit to the autobahn with slip roads connecting highway, state road & country road.  It is restricted to motor vehicles capable of driving at least 60 km/h, parking on Autobahn is forbidden unless if the vehicle is broken down. Will be fined, if vehicle stopped due to short of Fuel. Autobahn are labeled with white on blue, starting with A & followed by number.

Bundesstraße – Federal Highway

German Federal highway are rated to be once level lower that the Autobahn with a network of, constructed & maintained by Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. They are labelled with rectangular yellow sign with black colored Alphabet B followed by number, usually without B. Bundesstraße are usually of single carriageway with one or two lanes without a median separating opposing flows of traffic & without a service lane or hard shoulder, connecting cities & town. In general they have posted speed limit from 70km/h to 100km/p depending upon inside or outside the built up area, some stretches are similar to autobahn with advisory speed limit of 130km/p & are called as Yellow Autobahns.

Landesstraße – State Road

Landesstraße or Federal State road connect large town & rural area, constructed & maintained by the federal states. They are labeled with white sign with black colored Alphabet L followed by number.

 Kreisstraße – Country Road

Kreisstraße or Country road that runs within & between districts (Rural or Urban), maintained by the district authorities.
They are two land roads, usually labeled with Alphabet “K”.

             Gemeindestraße – Local /Municipal Road

Gemeindestraße are the local roads between villages & town, maintained by the Municipality authorities.

 Europastraße - European Highways

European highways are the Autobahn or highway labelled additionally to the domestic routes numbers with white on Green, starting with E & followed by number. They have a designated numbering system connecting European countries & guides international travelers to follow the routes while traveling between EU countries.
